Rachael Ray to be Honored at Global Pet Expo 2010
- Rachael Ray is named 2010 recipient of the prestigious annual “Excellence in Journalism and Outstanding Contributions to the Pet Industry Award.”-

(Greenwich, CT)— The American Pet Products Association (APPA) and Pet Industry Distributors Association (PIDA) are pleased to announce best selling author and TV personality, Rachael Ray as this year’s recipient of Global Pet Expo’s annual “Excellence in Journalism and Outstanding Contributions to the Pet Industry Award.”

Ray will personally accept the award Friday, March 26, 2010, in Orlando, Florida, at a media-exclusive event sponsored by Nestle Purina. The event is held in conjunction with Global Pet Expo, the pet industry’s largest annual trade show, taking place March 25-27, 2010 at the Orange County Convention Center. Global Pet Expo attendees include pet product retailers, distributors and buyers, media and other qualified individuals from the pet industry.

Ray has become a household name as she has risen to the top of daytime television as the host of “Rachael Ray.” The show has won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show – Entertainment for the past two years and has been nominated for six others. She has used her can-do spirit to become an important and influential icon in American culture, and has used her celebrity status to make positive changes in the pet industry. Ray has long been a pet lover and devoted pet owner to her Pit Bull Terrier, Isaboo, and uses her influence to promote animal advocacy, and positively bring attention to the plight of homeless animals.

Over the last few years, Ray has demonstrated her strong love and devotion to pets through, Rachael’s Rescue, a cause that supports organizations dedicated to helping animals in need.

To support Rachael’s Rescue, in 2008, Ray partnered with Ainsworth Pet Nutrition, a company formed by Dad’s Pet Care and Hampshire Pet Products, to develop a line of super premium dog food and treats called Rachael Ray™ Nutrish. All of Ray’s proceeds from each sale of Nutrish are donated to support Rachael’s Rescue (www.rachaelsrescue.org), which is dedicated to helping at-risk animals through adoption, medical care and educational programs, along with training and outreach initiatives.

“People love Rachael because of her boundless energy and generosity,” said Bob Vetere, president of APPA. “Her efforts to improve the lives of homeless animals through advocacy and her pet food line have been instrumental in creating awareness of mistreated and abandoned animals. We are delighted to honor Rachael for her commitment and contributions to the pet industry.”

In honor of Ray’s award and her commitment to animal welfare, Purina, the sponsor of the media-exclusive event, is making a donation to North Shore Animal League America, an organization that shares Ray’s dedication to helping pets in need.
The annual “Excellence in Journalism and Outstanding Contributions to the Pet Industry Award” recognizes individuals who have the power to influence millions of people and to positively promote the joys and benefits of pet ownership. Whether via print, broadcast or internet mediums, these distinguished members of the press produce stories that highlight responsible pet ownership and all the exciting services, products and activities that make spending time with our pets even more enjoyable. Past recipients include Ellen DeGeneres, Dr. Marty Becker (Good Morning America/PetConnection/Dr. Oz Show), Steve Dale (My Pet World/The Pet Minute), Gina Spadafori (author/Pet Connection) and Janice Brown (The Tails Pet Media Group).
